Final work-in-progress photos

Over 12,000 lines make up those feather-like structures, which are actually the parapodia of bristle worms, or Polychaeta. Find me on Instagram @micahofstedahl to see a time-lapse video of me painting them. The red sphere is a foraminifera. A small, but significant bottom-of-the-food-chain organism. Foraminifera can actually help scientists tell time in rocks through their evolutionary development.

Progress photos of a 24" x 36"

I’m trying something a little different with this piece. For one, the background sky is not my usual gradient of blues and maybe some wispy clouds, but a cloudy, stormy backdrop based on an old photo I took. I think I may continue with this method to add a little more complexity and realism to my skies.

Getting ready for Designercon!

Working on a little 5 x 7” for DesignerCon in Anaheim, CA Nov. 16-18. I will be showing 2 small paintings there in The Hive Gallery’s booth.

Starting a new piece!

Here are a couple shots at the very beginning stages of this new painting (12” x 16”). I just finished up with the commissioned piece so its time to get going on the next one.
